You’re Intellectually Dishonest
That may not sound like much of an insult. Maybe it isn't an insult at all but a criticism.
But for me, the charge of intellectual dishonesty is shorthand. Here’s what I really mean:
You are the utmost fraud. You don’t believe in your own ideas enough to trust them to match up to fact. As such, you will say whatever whenever wherever to make your ideas look good, real, true, or whatever suites your aims at the moment, when YOU don’t even believe in YOUR OWN ideas. You just want things your way, no matter what. Because you are selfish. And because you have the most elastic view of truth — that it just needs to be whatever suits the momentary desires you have — you are also morally bankrupt. If truth is bendable, why not ethics? Or justice? Or fairness? But the level of your cynicism is that you know you need people to believe in those things: truth, morality, justice, fairness in order to manipulate people into believing that you also care about those things. You also simplify or twist others’ ideas to make them look bad. You are misrepresentation personified. You are a true relativist — which you claim to hate and fight against. Because if everyone was like you, you would have no one to manipulate. That is the ultimate self-loathing. You are literally fighting against yourself in order to appear to be something you are not. And you only pretend to be that thing so that you can get what you want. So, maybe you feel guilty too. I don’t know. Yours is an existence characterized by distrust. Distrust of yourself and of everyone else. And deep down, you know all of this about yourself. But the depth of your total dishonesty enables you to deny it all, because that is what suits your momentary desires. But you still know it all. You just don’t believe in or trust yourself enough to admit it — even to yourself, to be real, and to grow as a human.
That’s a sad existence. It is a lot to live with. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. But I call it as I see it.
