The web of everything we know and have created
Maybe that is a powerful metaphor. Whoever came up with the idea for the internet was really thinking.
Is that all that is on the internet though? I mean, aren’t there also a lot of conspiracy theories and disinformation?
So, let’s add that in:
The web of everything we know, have created, and lies made up about that stuff?
Yeah, that is a little tentative. It probably is true that the conspiracy theory stuff and disinformation is about real stuff. It’s just not real stuff about real stuff.
That seems to check out. But they are connected right? Who would believe in or care about disinformation that was about a fake person that didn’t exist? Well, there could be disinformation on the internet about fictional characters, right? And some people might really care about those characters and therefore might be interested in the disinformation.
But that is all stuff that humans have created. Whether it is real, true, or disinformation. We just established that you can’t believe everything you read while browsing the web.
But we’ve gotten pretty far away from that.
Far away from what?
The web. We were discussing the web and how it is a cool metaphor.
Right! Back to that.
It is a cool metaphor. But, aren’t there other web metaphors?
